TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Hoover resident was among just three University of Alabama students awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to participate in study abroad programs during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Mariah Muhammad of Hoover was selected to study in South Korea. Muhammad also received Gilman's Critical Need Language Award, which offers additional scholarship funds to study critical languages while abroad.

"The Gilman International Scholarship is specifically designed to increase access to study abroad by supporting students who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints," said Carolina Robinson, director of Education Abroad at UA's Capstone International Center. "Since 2012, we have had 54 winners and 11 alternates for the award."
