Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Montgomery so special.

Montgomery is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Montgomery has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Montgomery was the first capital of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, and the city played a significant role in the history of the Confederacy. The First White House of the Confederacy, located in downtown Montgomery, is now a museum open to the public.
- The city is also known for being a major stop on the famous Civil Rights Trail, with several important landmarks such as the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the Civil Rights Memorial.
- Montgomery is home to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, one of the largest Shakespeare festivals in the world. It is held at the Carolyn Blount Theatre and is a must-see for any theater lover visiting the city.
