  1. During the Montgomery City Council meeting on Jun. 20, Mayor Reed used his opening statement to revisit a conversation around a civilian review board. Talks of this review board have been in the making for years at this point and constantly tabled, but this time Mayor Reed is attempting to make the steps to have it put to a vote next month. The mayor believes that such a board being in existence will be the first step in building a new sense of trust between civilians and the city government and police force. Of the nine current council members it is believed that four are split on their decisions. (Montgomery Advertiser)
  2. Montgomery Whitewater is currently looking into the future of the park and what can they offer for children under the age of eight who cannot yet enjoy whitewater rafting. Whitewater CEO Dave Hepp is looking to add more programming for a younger audience, for now there is a rock climbing wall and green space available for use. As business begins to pick up Hepp has big plans for his park including partnering with schools to form kayaking teams and other engaging programs. Montgomery Whitewater wants to establish itself as a family-friendly space, a beautiful environment for everyone to enjoy together. (Montgomery Advertiser)
  3. The historic statue and fountain at Court Square in downtown Montgomery have been temporarily removed for preservation purposes. The statue over the years has weathered and needs a facelift. The statue is heading to Alexander City where it will undergo zinc priming and receive a new coat to protect the statue for a long time. (WSFA 12)
