Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:
- A bill is currently in the works that will allow loved ones to gain a fuller picture of what is happening in incidents involving the police. The proposed bill will create a way for those to see what happened in an incident, the process would start with a written request for what you want to see at an approximate time and date and the police may accept or deny the request. If approved, the person must visually or audibly be in the video or a representative must be, these videos will be shared with the individuals and not with the public. The bill has received support and got a unanimous vote in a Housing committee last week, it is expected to get a vote in the House this week. (WRBL)
- The Montgomery Spring Ballet will be performing its Spring Concerts in the month of May where performers will showcase their abilities in classical and contemporary dance. May 12-13, the concert will take place at the Montgomery Ballet's Studio Theater, and on May 17 The Chapel at The Waters will be hosting a show; all concerts will begin at 6 p.m. with the doors opening at 5:45 p.m. Tickets to the shows are available here. (WSFA)
- A Montgomery High School senior has earned the highest award you can as a Girl Scout. Mia Johnston of Booker T. Washington Magnet High School was awarded the Gold Award for her dedication to enhancing and improving the trail walk at the Troy Arboretum. Mia worked to not only restore the trails but even took on hosting trail walks for the public. Only five percent of eligible girl scouts successfully obtain the Gold Award due to its tough process and Mia worked very hard to be recognized at the highest level of scouts. (WSFA)
