- Montgomery police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred over the weekend. On Friday, Jun. 9, an unidentified man was shot in the 4200 block of Strathmore Drive and taken to the hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound. On Saturday, Jun. 10, a juvenile male was shot on the 1800 block of Texas Street and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. (Montgomery Advertiser)
- The Montgomery Fire/Rescue warned the public about a new scam, where scammers claim to be collecting money for the five firefighters who were injured last month. On Saturday, Jun. 11, Assistant Fire Chief Stanley L. Cooper released a statement asking the public to contact the fire department if they see any solicitations from people posing as Montgomery Fire/Rescue. The only legitimate place to donate to the injured firemen is the Montgomery Alabama Fire Rescue Foundation through the Central Alabama Community Foundation, here. (WSFA)
- The legislators have only approved about $5 million of the proposed $25 million in state money for Montgomery Whitewater Park and the district. According to Montgomery Whitewater Park, they will still open on schedule next month, despite the missing $20 million for the construction and operation of the park. Leslie Sanders, chair of the district board, and other local leaders have been meeting to discuss how to bridge the shortfall. (Montgomery Advertiser)
