  1. Montgomery Whitewater, a 120-acre state-of-the-art outdoor adventure center, is preparing for a vibrant grand opening festival set to run from Jul. 7 through Jul. 9. Festivities will include a myriad of events such as whitewater rafting, kayaking, a fun 5k run, a national kayaking competition, and live music performances, sponsored by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, and expected to attract community members and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The park, to be operated by Southern Whitewater Development Group and designed by Colorado's S2O Design and Engineering, aims to play a significant role in local business recruitment and retention strategy. 2. The City of Montgomery has officially enlisted in the Alabama Purchasing Group, a regional e-procurement solution from Bidnet Direct, thus providing easy online access to upcoming city solicitations for vendors across the state. Ken Barwick, Buyer II of the City of Montgomery, asserts the move will increase vendor participation and competition, support local businesses, and ensure procurement of goods and services at fair prices. Local vendors can register at the official site to receive access to upcoming solicitations, contract expiration notices, and real-time addenda from Montgomery and other participating public agencies. (Benzinga)
  3. In light of ongoing lawsuits filed by Hornet Medicinals and Alabama Always LLC, a Montgomery judge has deferred a Jul. 13 hearing regarding Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission's (AMCC) licensing process, providing the commission additional time for an independent review of its potentially flawed application process. The AMCC had previously awarded 21 licenses but later suspended the process due to "potential inconsistencies in the scoring tabulation." While the timeline for the availability of medical marijuana in Alabama is now uncertain, the litigation may potentially instigate a restart of the application process, consequently causing potential delays in the availability of medicinal cannabis products.
