- Pike Road broke ground on a new 577-acre master-planned community called Kinsley, featuring a 16-acre lake and located near the town's upcoming high school. The neighborhood will offer various amenities such as pickleball courts, dog parks and a spa, a pool, a splash pad, a fitness center, and unique features in the homes like secure package drop-off areas and dedicated pet spaces. Lowder New Homes, the developer, made adjustments to address concerns about traffic congestion and school overcrowding, reducing the number of homes and incorporating more green space into the plan. Construction of the homes is expected to begin in winter. (WSFA)
- On Monday morning, a gathering took place at city hall where the community came together to pray for the five Montgomery firefighters injured in a recent fire incident that resulted in two fatalities. Faith leaders offered prayers for healing and celebrated the heroism of the firefighters. The event emphasized the importance of remembering and supporting the firefighters and their families beyond the headlines, and it was announced that donations can be made through the Montgomery Alabama Fire Rescue Foundation here. - Montgomery Public Schools is undertaking a project called "Portrait of a Graduate" to define the competencies and skills that high school graduates should possess. The initiative aims to prepare students not only in traditional subjects but also in areas like collaboration, global thinking, and empathy. The district has formed a diverse design team, including students, to co-develop the portrait and plans to involve the community in providing feedback and tracking progress. (WSFA)
