Here are the top three stories in Montgomery today:

  1. On Sunday, Vaughn Park Church was evacuated during its morning service due to a suspicious package. According to officials, the package was received on Saturday and the Montgomery Police Department received a call about the package at 9:00 a.m. Sunday. After being evacuated, officials examined the package and determined that it was not harmful. Vaughn Park Church has yet to comment on the incident, and the contents of the package have not been revealed. (WSFA)
  2. Police continue to investigate a shooting that occurred over the weekend on Hale Street. Sunday night, Montgomery Police received a report about the shooting around 8:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a teen with a fatal gunshot wound. According to police, the 16-year-old victim died. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 215-STOP, a secret witness at 625-4000, or MPD at 625-2831. (WSFA)
  3. After 30 years, the Bates House of Turkey will return to Montgomery. As of Monday, May 8, Bates House of Turkey will be open in Westminster Shopping Center on Carter Hill Road. The business's first location was opened in Greenville in 1969 and its expansion to Montgomery marks its second official location. (Montgomery Advertiser)
