Alabaster joins SSUT lawsuit against the state (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Pelham has joined Alabaster in a lawsuit challenging how Alabama distributes online sales tax revenue, arguing the current SSUT system is draining money from its budget and schools. City leaders say rising online shopping is cutting into local sales tax, which helps fund Pelham City Schools, while smaller towns like Columbiana are fighting to keep the existing formula.
   

2. ‘Looking to steal': Pelham Police warn holiday shoppers of car break-ins (wbrc.com) — Pelham Police are urging holiday shoppers to lock their cars, hide gifts, and park in well-lit, camera-covered areas after a spike in vehicle break-in reports near major retailers like Walmart on Pelham Parkway. Officers also want residents to immediately report suspicious behavior around parked cars and say simple precautions can greatly reduce theft risk during last-minute Christmas shopping.
   

3. PREP BASKETBALL: Local teams scattered throughout new ASWA basketball rankings (cullmantribune.com) — Pelham basketball fans have reason to celebrate, with the boys’ team ranked No. 3 in Class 6A at 13-0 and the girls receiving mention among others nominated at 8-4 in the latest ASWA state rankings. Several other nearby schools also appear throughout the December lists, with updated standings expected again next month.
   

4. University of Alabama bringing back standardized testing for applicants (wbrc.com) — Pelham families eyeing the University of Alabama should know standardized test scores are coming back, with ACT or SAT scores required for all applicants by 2027. A Pelham City Schools counselor says tests will again play a key role in scholarships, course placement, and how colleges judge students’ readiness, so local students should stay focused on test preparation.
