Pelham Family, I wanted to let you know about an announcement I made at the Board of Education meeting on October 25. Please read on for details. I thoroughly enjoy my job as the leader of Pelham City Schools. My sense of purpose is driven by our mission to inspire, empower, and achieve, and I think working with children is one of the highest callings in life. There are great people and tremendous opportunities in Pelham. I enjoy the daily interactions, the teamwork, and all the details we focus on to provide an outstanding education for our students and create greater value for our community. But after 33 years in education, the time has come for me to consider a different path focused on family and other interests. Therefore, I'm announcing my retirement at the end of this school year. I'm making this announcement early so our Board has ample time to engage in a thorough search process for a new superintendent and provide a smooth transition of roles. Although I've made this announcement, it doesn't change the fact that there is much work to be done, and we will continue to remain focused on our commitments and the goals and expectations we have set for ourselves, our students, and our school community. Please know that I am just as committed to the work today as when I accepted this job in 2014. We have many current priorities, and I will remain dedicated and focused on these items and other school business. Further, I’m committed to being a part of a smooth transition to ensure that Pelham City Schools is well positioned for the future. The Board of Education will soon begin the search for the next superintendent of Pelham City Schools. Next steps include collaboration with the Pelham City Schools Board of Education attorneys, seeking staff and community input through a superintendent search survey, and establishing a timeline for the search, interview, and hiring process. As decisions are made, the Board of Education will keep stakeholders informed about the plans and progress. I am so appreciative of the support and collaboration among our students, employees, and families. Thank you for all you do to make Pelham City Schools a wonderful school community that inspires and empowers our students to achieve personal success.  Warm regards, Dr. Scott Coefield
