Pelham is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Pelham has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- A pre-Civil War settlement, Pelham was originally known as Shelbyville. It was later renamed in honor of a famous Civil War general, Major John Pelham.
- If you're a fan of outdoor activities, you'll love Oak Mountain State Park. It's the largest state park in Alabama and offers everything from hiking and camping to fishing and swimming. There's even a BMX track and a golf course, so you can get your adrenaline pumping in a variety of ways.
- Pelham is home to the Oak Mountain Amphitheater, which hosts outdoor concerts and events throughout the year. It's a great place to enjoy live music while taking in the natural beauty of the area.
- The Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena is another great spot for entertainment. You can catch a hockey game, go ice skating, or attend a trade show or convention.
- If you're interested in history, be sure to visit the Shelby Iron Works Park, just a short drive away from Pelham. This historic site features the remnants of an ironworks factory that operated in the area during the 1800s.
