Organizers say this βmeager mealβ serves as a reminder of the food insecurity and injustice that affects many in west Alabama, with the empty bowl representing that many go to bed hungry.
Table of Grace β an expansion of the former Loaves & Fishes food pantry into a new building β offers a market-style pantry where those in need can select the food they would like from the available inventory, which gives neighbors greater choices.
Ann Weeden, chair of Grace Presbyterianβs Table of Grace committee, said since the new market-style building opened in October of last year, Table of Grace has more than doubled the number of neighbors we feed at the pantry.
'The financial support the community provides through Empty Bowls will help us continue to grow and meet the growing food insecurity of our community in West Alabama,β she said.
