HSWA says the race is open to humans only but walkers are welcome to join.
“We are so thankful to all of our sponsors, participants, and supporters," race organizer Amy Heatherly said. "As a nonprofit relying on the generosity of our donors, our fundraisers like the Canine Classic allow us to continue our hard work in supplying care, shelter, and ultimately finding loving homes for our dogs and cats.”
Newly appointed HSWA Executive Director Brian Gaeity also praised the outpouring of community support ahead of the event.
“In the short time I’ve been with HSWA, I have been blown away by the generosity of this community toward our work. Everything we do relies on volunteers, donors, and the goodwill of people doing simple acts such as donating pet food or helping at our facilities. Participating in the Canine Classic is yet another act of kindness, and we are so grateful for everyone running, walking, volunteering, and sponsoring.”
HSWA says the racecourse is a flat, certified course and runners will be provided with sport drinks, snacks, fruit and water.
