Arts Council Presents Awards For 2024 Juried Show

The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa this week announced the winners of its 2024 Juried Show following an awards ceremony.

TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa this week announced the winners of its 2024 Juried Show following an awards ceremony at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.

The nonprofit said that during the First Friday Art Walk, a large group of art lovers and artists were on hand for the conclusion of the annual exhibit including 2 and 3-D art by artists throughout the West Alabama region.

The Arts Council says artists were allowed to submit up to three works for judging, with the competition juried with digital images and the winners then selected in person by Cynthia Buob β€”a figurative painter and art instructor at East Mississippi Community College.

The West Alabama Juried Show was established in 1985 and is part of the Arts Council’s mission to promote the arts in Tuscaloosa County.

The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Purchase Award ($1,000) β€” Sarah Marshall for β€œAggressive Reassurance." The Arts Council says this work will be displayed at the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama in downtown Tuscaloosa as part of The Arts Council’s permanent collection and a partnership between the two organizations.

Gail Skidmore Memorial Award of Excellence, contributed by The Arts Council ($300) β€” Eric Nubbe for β€œLock #1”

Cash award contributed by The Arts Council ($100) β€” Jenna Clark for β€œMother’s Magnolias”

Honorable Mentions: Kate Gurganus for β€œTea with Lemon;" Krislyn Koehn for β€œThe Fronts #1;”
and Deborah Hughes for β€œConjuring Woods and Water."
