Bama Art House Film Series Returns This Spring

The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa is gearing up for its Bama Art House Film Series for Spring 2025, with three screenings at the Bama Theatre.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa is gearing up for its Bama Art House Film Series for Spring 2025, with three screenings at the Bama Theatre in February, March and April.

Organizers say the series will feature a diverse selection of films, including a collection of live-action Oscar Shorts, a beloved comedy, and an intriguing documentary.

The screenings will be held on Feb. 25, March 4, and April 3 at 7 p.m. at the historic Bama Theatre, with doors and the bar opening at 6 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the box office, with general admission priced at $10, $9 for seniors and students, and $8 for Arts Council Members.

A discount punch card will be available for $70, which will be valid for any 10 Bama Art House films

Tickets can also be ordered in advance through The Arts Council’s online ticketing page.

February 25: "Oscar Shorts Live Action" (2024) This screening will feature a selection of live-action short films nominated for an Oscar in 2024. The films include:

  • "The After" (18 minutes, UK)
  • "Red, White and Blue" (23 minutes, USA)
  • "Knight of Fortune" (25 minutes, Denmark)
  • "Invincible" (29 minutes, Canada)
  • "The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar" (37 minutes, US/UK)

March 4: "Frances Ha" (2012) — "A heartwarming and witty comedy/romance directed by Noah Baumbach, Frances Ha follows a young woman (Greta Gerwig) navigating life and friendship in New York City. With a vibe reminiscent of French New Wave films, this coming-of-age story captures the bittersweet journey of being young and uncertain of the future."

April 3: "Secret Mall Apartment" (2024) — "Directed by Jeremy Workman, this documentary tells the true story of eight Rhode Islanders who secretly lived in an apartment inside a busy mall for four years, capturing their experiences on film. What began as a prank grew into a deeply meaningful and transformative journey."
