Bo Scarbrough, Damion Square Join UWA Football Staff
University of West Alabama head coach Scott Cochran on Thursday announced the hiring of a pair of former Alabama football standouts.

LIVINGSTON, AL — University of West Alabama head coach Scott Cochran on Thursday announced the hiring of former Alabama football standouts Bo Scarbrough and Damion Square to the football coaching staff.

Scarbrough, a Tuscaloosa native and former Crimson Tide running back, will serve as the director of High School Relations, while Square will take on the role of defensive line coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bo Scarbrough and Damion Square to our football family,” Cochran said. “Continuing to build a strong and dynamic coaching staff is a top priority, and both bring invaluable experience to our program.”
Scarbrough is a former five-star recruit and rushed for 1,512 yards and 20 touchdowns at Alabama, earning two national championships. He also had a brief NFL career, playing for the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and other teams, before retiring in 2024.

Scarbrough also helped lead the Birmingham Stallions to a USFL Championship in 2022.
Square, a defensive line standout under Nick Saban, begins his coaching career after nine seasons in the NFL with teams including the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers.
During his time in Tuscaloosa, Square contributed to three national championship teams and amassed 93 tackles and 7.5 sacks.
Cochran said the new hires will be introduced at UWA’s Spring Game on Friday, March 14, at 4:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium, with a chance for fans to meet the new coaches later at the 2025 UWA Drawdown.
The Spring Game is free of charge, with ticket holders to the Drawdown event able to meet the coaches at 7 p.m. in the Campora Athletic Complex.
