'Books For The Black Belt' Campaign To Kick Off In February

TUSCALOOSA, AL β€” The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development (UACED) will host its 18th annual Books for the Black Belt will kick off on Feb. 5, with community members asked to donate K-12 appropriate books for students in Alabama's Black Belt region.

The annual campaign seeks to promote literacy and a love of learning among students in Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter and Wilcox counties in the late spring.

UACED says it will accept new or gently used classic and award-winning books commonly found on school reading lists until March 1, with donation boxes available on the UA campus in various locations and throughout Tuscaloosa.

UACED also said its 2023 campaign collected more than 11,500 books that were distributed to 68 schools, along with receiving $360 in donations.
