Please describe why this individual is a hero at your school.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Harris when I was teaching at HHS. He was at the end of the hall where all CTE classes took place. Back when I was in school, we called his class “shop” but it’s so much more than a shop class. Mr. Harris supports and enables his students to see a future. Not only does he teach carpentry skills but he also teaches math, business & finance, marketing and anything else that will support his students for life after high school. Besides teaching, Mr. Harris provides experiences for his students that they may never know. At the end of each year, he takes a group of students to FOCUS Future Outdoor Conservationist Understanding Stewardship. He started the first and very successful archery club at HHS. Mr. Harris’ love for his students goes beyond the classroom. See the article on Chris Pater in the Tusc. News from April 28th. Mr. Harris opened his home to Chris and has secured guardianship for this former student. Mr. Harris LOVES what he does. Look through his FB page and see his commitment to fundraising for his program. Mr. Harris has so many wonderful qualities but his greatest is his ability to connect with his students. They know they matter and someone believes in them! We need more teachers like Blake Harris!
