Central Elementary Placed On Lockdown, Suspect In Custody After Report Of Shots Fired

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Police placed Central Elementary School on lockdown Thursday after officers received reports of shots fired near 15th Street and Dinah Washington Avenue.

TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor told local media that officers were called just before 11 a.m. and quickly took a suspect into custody.

Officers remained at the scene as they worked to confirm whether any shots were fired and if property had been damaged.

No injuries have been reported, Taylor said.

TPD also said the lockdown at Central Elementary was ordered out of precaution because of the school’s proximity to the scene and was later lifted after officers secured the area.

TPD continues to investigate the situation.
