Charles Nash served 28 years with The University of Alabama System and became the first person of color to hold its highest administrative role.
Hattie Nash worked as an educator across grade levels, mentoring young women and supporting literacy programs along the way.
The couple remained active in civic life outside of the classroom by contributing to organizations such as Rotary Club, the Boy Scouts and United Way, in addition to church ministries.
UWAA says Charles and Hattie Nash's legacy can be seen in their children, Kimberly and Charles Jr., and grandchildren Sidney Elizabeth, Joseph “Joey” Bradford, Jonathan and Taj.
