TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Northport unveiled its new Public Works Building on Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Northport City Hall said this marked a significant milestone that reflects the foresight and commitment of the city’s leaders over the past three decades.

"This new facility represents our commitment to investing in our workforce and ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed," Mayor John Hinton said. "We are proud to provide our Public Works employees with an environment that encourages their well-being, ultimately benefiting the entire Northport community."

Council President Christy Bobo said when the mayor and council first made the decision to purchase the Public Works compound in the early 1990s, they were laying the groundwork for the future of Northport.

"The vision was clear: to prepare for growth and ensure that Northport's infrastructure could support a thriving community," she said.

She went on to say that the current council recognized the need for upgraded facilities and office spaces within the Public Works Department, which prompted the construction of the new building.

City leaders also touted the addition of a gym in the new facility to better promote health and fitness for city employees.

"Public Works employees face a unique set of challenges, from the physically demanding tasks that come with maintaining our roads, parks, and public spaces to navigating the seasonal changes that Northport experiences," Bobo said. "This new gym will enable our team to stay fit and maintain their health, which is essential for executing their demanding duties effectively."
