City Of Tuscaloosa To Host Hazardous Waste Disposal Day This Weekend
The City of Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will once again host its Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day on Saturday, June 7.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will once again host its Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day on Saturday, June 7.

The city will partner with Nucor for the event, which will run from 8 a.m. until noon at the City of Tuscaloosa's Public Safety Logistics building at 3311 Reese Phifer Avenue.

The City of Tuscaloosa says household hazardous waste is the discarded, unused or leftover portion of household products containing toxic chemicals.
Discarded items will either be neutralized and recycled into new products or safely and properly disposed of.

Household hazardous waste includes:
- Drain cleaner.
- Household cleaners.
- Rust preventative.
- Mothballs.
- Automotive fluids.
- Paint thinner.
- Herbicides.
- Pool chemicals.
- Metal polish.
- Batteries.
- Insecticides.
- Propane tanks up to 20 pounds.
- Latex or oil-based paint.
- Antifreeze.
- Pesticides.
- Bleaches.
- Oil or gasoline.
- Ammonia.
- Creosote.
- Light bulbs.
- Mercury-containing equipment.
- Chemistry sets.
- Wood strippers.
- Sealants.
- Lawn chemicals/fertilizers.
- Arts and crafts supplies.
- Solvents.
Items that won't be accepted include tires, medical waste, radioactive waste and electronics.
Additionally, wastes will not be accepted from commercial businesses, non-profit organizations or residents outside Tuscaloosa County.
The free drop-off event is open only to residents of Tuscaloosa County, with identifications checked at the site.
