The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says the fatal accident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. Saturday when the 1995 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Reyes M. Lugo, 27, left the roadway and struck a tree.

ALEA then said Lugo was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, which was roughly four miles north of the city of Tuscaloosa.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
