Tuscaloosa County High DC Brian Niedermeyer Promoted To Head Coach

NORTHPORT, AL — Tuscaloosa County High School on Tuesday announced that it has promoted defensive coordinator Brian Niedermeyer to become the school's 26th head football coach.

As Patch previously reported, this comes after TCHS first-year head football coach Miles Holcomb resigned after a 1-9 season in his first year in Northport.

Niedermeyer was the keystone of Holcomb's staff when he was hired from IMG Academy after serving as its defensive coordinator for two seasons and following one year in the same position at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Before his first year at TCHS, Niedermeyer was an assistant on Jeremy Pruitt's staff at Tennessee for three seasons, before Pruitt, Niedermeyer and most of the coaching staff were fired with cause after accusations surfaced regarding improper cash payouts to recruits during visits.

Despite the tumultuous end to his time at Tennessee, Niedermeyer was named the National Recruiter of the Year by 247Sports and ESPN in 2019.

Niedermeyer's connection to Pruitt was forged during his time as a defensive graduate assistant working with linebackers under Pruitt at both Georgia and Alabama.

He previously was a defensive graduate assistant working with linebackers under head coach Jeremy Pruitt at Georgia and Alabama. Niedermeyer also worked with linebackers at Miami for a single season in 2013 as an analyst.

Niedermeyer coached several All-Americans during his time in the college ranks many Tuscaloosa Patch readers will know well, including Jonathan Allen, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Reuben Foster and Marlon Humphrey.

Niedermeyer is a native of Eagle River, Alaska, and played tight end at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
