DCH Moves Historic Home From Northport Location
DCH on Tuesday began work to move a historic house that has stood as a neighbor to Northport Medical Center for more than half a century.

NORTHPORT, AL — DCH Health System on Tuesday began work to move a historic house that has stood as a neighbor to Northport Medical Center for more than half a century.

The house, known as the “Mattie Rose Home,” is named after Mattie Rose — a woman who made the house a center for family gatherings. Rose passed away in 2013 at the age of 102 and had a long career as a nurse at DCH Regional Medical Center, working into her 70s.

The house was loaded on a flatbed trailer Tuesday to be transported a few miles north, where it will be preserved by the Rose family.
The house was built in the 1950s and is the last remaining structure on the land between Northport Medical Center and McFarland Boulevard.

DCH Health System says the home's relocation is part of its plans for future growth, saying that Mattie Rose’s death, the home has been used as a guest house for families visiting loved ones at the medical center.
