“We provide an inclusive workplace that fosters independence, confidence and a sense of achievement," Nichols said. “We enjoy hosting the JET students. This is a group of people who are often overlooked and underutilized in the workforce. "They are often our most dedicated and engaged workers. The program allows people with disabilities to contribute to the workforce. In return each student is paid and provided a safe and supportive work environment. It’s a win-win."

DCH says it has just under 20 high school students presently enrolled in the program. with participants serving as door greeters, laundry assistants, food delivery helpers, human resource assistants and more.

Nichols said the participants, through the jobs, learn soft skills like communication, adaptability, and teamwork.

Organizers also explained that The JET program encourages job exploration and celebrates the diverse abilities of each individual.

DCH hopes to eventually hire several students as permanent hospital staff.
