District 2's Woodrow Washington Elected Northport Council Pro Tem

The Northport City Council on Monday unanimously voted to appoint District 2's Woodrow Washington III to be the council's next pro tempore.

NORTHPORT, AL β€” The Northport City Council on Monday unanimously voted to appoint District 2 Councilman Woodrow Washington III to be the council's next president pro tempore.

The change on the Council comes after the abrupt resignation of former Council President Jeff Hogg earlier this month, which resulted in District 1 Councilwoman and former pro tem Christy Bobo ascending to the position of council president.

Washington is the owner Archibald's BBQ and Archibald & Woodrow's BBQ, and is nearly at the end of his first term on the Council.

He is retired from both the United States Air Force Reserve and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue.

A graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and Stillman College, he is also a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

The city has yet to appoint a new council member to fill the vacant District 5 seat and is currently in the midst of its 60-day application window before interviewing potential candidates.
