“There is no better coach to start our program with than Doug Rogers,” SSCC Athletics Director Cara Crosslin said. “Coach Rogers brings a championship pedigree and deep understanding of the game. As with any sport here at Shelton State, we expect flag football to compete at the highest level, and I have complete confidence that he will get us to the top.”
Rogers most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Vestavia Hills girl's flag football team, posting a 61-12 record over four seasons.

During this stretch, the Lady Rebels qualified for the state playoffs in all four seasons and finished as the state runner-up in 2023.
“Flag Football has been a part of my life since my first job, and I cannot imagine a better way to finish my career than to coach the first-ever team at Shelton State Community College,” Rogers said. “This opportunity is a dream come true for me.”
Rogers was inducted into the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Flag Football Hall of Fame in 2008 and is credited with being instrumental in the rise of flag football in Pensacola, Florida, where he started the regional tournament for the area.
Rogers won his first NIRSA national championship in 1993 as a player/coach and his offense was recognized by NIRSA in 2004, garnering All-American honors and a national runner-up finish.
In 2005, his team was crowned NIRSA national champion, with Rogers taking home MVP honors.
Rogers also served as the coordinator of intramurals for Pensacola State from 1986-2021 before taking over the athletic program coordinator role for Vestavia Hills Parks and Recreation.
