Driver Charged After One Killed, Two Injured In Crash On Hugh Thomas Bridge

A minor is dead and two others critically injured in an early-morning crash on the Hugh Thomas Bridge.

NORTHPORT, AL — A minor was killed and two others critically injured in an early-morning crash on the Hugh Thomas Bridge

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said that crash occurred at approximately 3:43 a.m., Friday.

Kennedy said officers responded to reports of a head-on collision in the southbound lanes of the bridge.

Once on scene, investigators determined that a vehicle, traveling northbound in the wrong lane, struck another vehicle carrying three occupants.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, 29-year-old Rachael Robinson, was uninjured but appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, he said.

Kennedy then said a passenger in the struck vehicle, who was under the age of 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased victim has not been publicly identified.

The two other occupants, both adults, were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

Robinson was subsequently charged with manslaughter, two counts of first-degree assault and driving under the influence.

She is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.
