Local Amendment 1 also directly impacts Tuscaloosa County, with State Sen. Gerald Allen, a Republican from Tuscaloosa, saying it puts residents of a special tax district for the Tuscaloosa City Schools property tax back into the district for the Tuscaloosa County School System.
"These citizens weren't allowed to vote for or against the tax in either of the recent property tax referendums, hence the term No Man's Land," Allen said of the amendment if it is passed. "Funds will move from city schools to county schools. Current students will continue through the city system while new students in this area will go to county schools.”
