False Report Of Gunfire Causes Panic On The Strip
TPD says there was no shooting after a panic was caused on The Strip Saturday night.
TUSCALOOSA, AL — A crowd on The Strip scattered in a panic just before 9 p.m. Saturday after several people reported hearing what they believed to be gunshots.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department says officers already stationed in the area responded immediately. After a thorough search, police found no evidence that any shots had been fired.
No injuries were reported.

TPD says the university’s ShotSpotter system, a gunfire detection technology installed in the area, did not register any gunfire during the time of the incident.
Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley declared The Strip overcrowded at 9 p.m. and required individuals to either enter a business or leave the area.

Blankley said the measure is intended to help maintain public safety during large gatherings.
TPD said there were no other major issues reported Saturday.
