Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley and several TPD officers then took Burcham into custody Monday afternoon at his home in Tuscaloosa County.
"When we first learned of these allegations last week, we began the necessary procedures that will ensure he never works as a police officer again," Blankley said. "We have zero tolerance for actions that undermine the public trust and harm children. The individual involved no longer serves in any capacity with the department."

The brief investigation reportedly uncovered multiple images depicting child sexual abuse material on the phone, resulting in warrants being obtained to charge Burcham with 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
Prior to his arrest, Burcham had worked as a TPD patrol officer since January 2019.
Patch confirmed following the announcement that Burcham had resigned in the days leading up to his arrest.
Burcham remains in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, with his bond to be set by a judge.
