Inspired by Hank Poore, a Tuscaloosa native with cerebral palsy, the nonprofit seeks to provide opportunities and experiences for people with disabilities, along with promoting disability education.

Poore is an inspiration to many in the community and has made it his life's mission to show others what is possible. Over the years, he has cycled 10 half marathons and four full marathons, including the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. and the New York City Marathon.

He and a friend also cycled 158 miles in western Colorado in 2019 to raise awareness and funds for athletes with disabilities, which ultimately led to the creation of the foundation that bears his name.

Kathy Poore, president of the foundation's board and Hank's mother, told Patch the first Art in Bloom event last year raised over $35,000.

"Our foundation exists to provide grants and community improvements that promote accessibility and mainly focus on recreation," she said. "We give individual grants for adaptive sports equipment and we have an educational component."
