Historic Tuscaloosa Announces Winners Of Annual Preservation Awards

Historic Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will present five awards to individuals, businesses, and organizations next month.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Historic Tuscaloosa on Tuesday announced it will present five awards to individuals, businesses, and organizations at its annual meeting and preservation awards next month.

The annual banquet is set for Thursday, Aug. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion. The nonprofit's board will review its work and progress from the fiscal year as part of the meeting, which will then be followed by the awards banquet.

Here's a look at the honorees:

Karen and John Carpenter — recipients of the 2024 Historic Tuscaloosa Ornamentalist Award for their many years of dedication and service in decorating the Christmas tree at Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion.

Gail And Landon Miller — recipients of the 2024 Preservationist Award for their donation of historically significant antiques to Historic Tuscaloosa.

E. Calhoun Wilson — recipient of the 2024 Volunteer of the Year Award in recognition of the countless hours of volunteer service and fundraising for Historic Tuscaloosa.

Louise and Luther Richardson Charitable Foundation — recipients of the 2024 Legacy Award in recognition of the generous gifts and continued support for Historic Tuscaloosa made in memory of their parents.

Wanda and Steve Mouzon — recipients of the 2024 Brick and Mortar Award for their time, effort, and dedication to restoring their properties in the Jemison Historic District.
