Honorees Announced For Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Foundation Uplift Awards

The Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Foundation is set to host its second annual Uplift Awards fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 13.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Foundation is set to host its second annual Uplift Awards fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Tuscaloosa River Market.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. with doors opening at 11 a.m.

The Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Foundation says the awards honor the legacy of those who have made a difference both personally and professionally.

This year's award recipients include:

  • Rev. Thomas Linton Perseverance Award: Maxie Thomas
  • Rev. T. Y. Rogers Jr. Trail Blazer Award: Charles Steele Jr.
  • Mr. Bill Buchanan Service Award: Shelley Jones (posthumous)
  • Dr. Myrtle E. Gray Outstanding Youth Award: Central High School student Peyton Ike

The Uplift Awards will also recognize students from Druid High School and Stillman College who participated in the Tuscaloosa Civil Rights Movement.
