Steverson Announces Bid For Sixth Judicial Circuit Court Seat

TUSCALOOSA – Circuit Court Judge Dennis Steverson on Wednesday announced his candidacy for Place 7 Circuit Court Judge in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Alabama.

Steverson, running as a Republican, was appointed by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey in 2020 to fill Judge Philip Lisenby’s unexpired term as the circuit court judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit.

The primary election for the circuit judge seat is set for May 19, 2026.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Tuscaloosa,” he said. “I am seeking to continue that service with integrity, fairness and a commitment to justice. Every decision I make will be based upon the law and in doing what is right for children, families and our community.”

Steverson previously served as a municipal judge in the towns of Woodstock, Vance, Brookwood, and Coaling and in Tuscaloosa County as a circuit court judge from 1999 to 2002.

He also served as special circuit court judge for Tuscaloosa County Drug Court from 2009-2015.

“Experience matters, and I bring that legal experience to the bench every day, applying the law fairly to every individual who enters the courtroom,” he said.

Along with his legal career, he was inducted into the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce Civic Hall of Fame in 2019 and in 2011 he was honored as a Pillar of West Alabama.

Steverson has also been involved with Easter Seals, the United Way of West Alabama (UWWA), the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Hospice of West Alabama, the YMCA, and Turning Point, in addition to serving as an Elder for the Woodland Park Church of Christ for over 30 years.

He is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1982.

Steverson also holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Stillman College.
