As Patch previously reported, Conger was one of seven candidates who applied to fill the seat that opened up when District 3 Councilman John Hinton ascended to the mayor's office.
“I decided to run for Council because it is apparent to me that the citizens do not feel heard," Conger told Patch. "They have lost trust in our City Council, and they want a voice. I have spent my career providing a voice to those who feel looked over, and I am uniquely qualified for this seat at this time. I have the skills and training to provide insight into the issues facing our City, and I will provide transparent and effective representation for District 3 and all of Northport moving forward.”

Conger says she first moved to Northport in 2008 and has lived in District 3 for the last 10 years with her husband, John Conger — a lifelong Northport resident. The couple have two children: Vivian, 9, and Henry, 7.
Conger has also been involved with the Northport Redevelopment Authority since 2020 and was recently named its chair. In this role, she has most notably headed up the city's facade improvement program, which gives matching grants to local businesses to improve the facades of their brick-and-mortar businesses.
She is originally from Montgomery and holds degrees from Furman University and from Tulane University Law School.
Conger says she left New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina and spent a semester at the University of Alabama School of Law, before beginning her career with a small law firm in Montgomery.
After moving to Northport, Conger joined a more general law practice and has been a partner with the Tuscaloosa firm of Smith & Staggs, LLP, for the last 13 years, where she focuses on criminal defense, juvenile law, domestic relations and civil litigation.
Conger is the past president of the Tuscaloosa County Bar Association and the Junior League of Tuscaloosa, while also serving as a board member of the Tuscaloosa County Public Defender Commission, the Tuscaloosa Arts Council and the Tuscaloosa Public Library Foundation.
The Northport Municipal Election is set for Tuesday, Aug. 26.
