“Joe is a relentless competitor and a proven winner,” Shelton State Athletic Director Cara Crosslin. “It is not very often you can bring coaches back that have had his type of success at our level, so we could not be more excited to get Joe back on the court.”

Eatmon returns after a three-year hiatus during which he served as Shelton State's dean of community relations. During this time, as Patch previously reported, Eatmon also won a seat on the Tuscaloosa City Council and will soon begin his first term.

During his first stretch as head coach, he posted a 182-39 (.821) career record, going 83-14 in Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) play.

Eatmon was named ACCC Coach of the Year five times and led his team to five conference championships in six seasons, including four in a row from 2019-2022.

Eatmon also guided the Bucs to six NJCAA National Tournaments, including back-to-back Sweet 16 tournaments in 2021 and 2022.

“I am excited to again take the reins as coach,” Eatmon said. “Coaching has and always will be my passion. It’s far more than winning to me; it’s about seeing our students succeed, on and off the court.”
