Juvenile In Custody After One Injured In Tuscaloosa Shooting

One person was seriously injured and a juvenile is in custody following a shooting early Sunday morning at a Tuscaloosa intersection.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — One person was seriously injured and a juvenile is in custody following a shooting early Sunday morning at the intersection of 21st Street and Alston Avenue in Tuscaloosa.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media that Tuscaloosa Police responded at approximately 1:30 a.m. on the initial call of a shooting and found that a female victim had been struck by gunfire.

Kennedy said the victim was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where she is being treated for serious injuries but is expected to survive.

"The shooting occurred when a group of people met and continued and ongoing argument they had been involved in for the last few days," Kennedy said. "The Violent Crimes Unit was called out to assume the investigation. During the ongoing argument, one subject began shooting and the victim was struck."

Kennedy went on to say that over 10 people were interviewed before the suspect was located and a search warrant was executed at his residence.

The firearm was located during the search and was determined to have been stolen.

Kennedy said the suspect was charged with first-degree assault, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and certain persons prohibited from possessing a pistol

The juvenile suspect is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond set at this time.

Kennedy explained that while suspect is being charged as an adult, Alabama law prohibits the disclosure of any identifying information.
