TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirms that a man is dead after jumping from the Hugh Thomas Bridge Friday morning.

TPD spokesperson Stephanie Taylor told Patch that dispatchers received calls at about 8 a.m. from motorists saying someone had jumped from the bridge.

Officers arrived in the area of Homewood Suites shortly thereafter and found the man dead, prompting TPD to close Jack Warner Parkway and Nick's Kids Avenue while the investigation is conducted.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is now handling the investigation.

"Although the investigation is just beginning, it will be worked to the same standard as all investigations handled by the Violent Crimes Unit," Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, said Friday morning. "There is nothing that appears criminal at this time. Unless that changes, to protect the privacy of the victim and his family, no other information will be released."
