“A good win against a very offensive team on the road,” Alabama head coach Rob Vaughn said. “We traded blows for a while but got some huge hits and great bullpen performances late. Just a good team win. Now we have to rest, recover and get ready for another big SEC weekend starting on Thursday.”

First baseman Will Hodo led the Tide’s offense, reaching base in all five plate appearances as he finished 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs, two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Center fielder Richie Bonomolo Jr. also had a big night at the dish, going 3-for-5 with two RBI singles, while shortstop Justin Lebron added a 3-for-4 effort that included a double, an RBI and two walks.

Garrett Staton rounded out the hot bats in the win, going 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer.

Catcher Brady Neal also stretched his hitting streak to seven games and reached base for the 13th straight outing.

The Crimson Tide jumped to an early lead in the first, before adding three more in the second behind a solo shot from Hodo and the RBI single by Lebron — his 60th RBI of the season, which is tied for second nationally.

Samford tied it at 4 in the third but Alabama regained the lead in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth inning with Staton’s home run to make it 7-4.

The Bulldogs refused to go quietly, though, and responded with a three-run fifth to even the score again.

This is when Alabama’s bullpen shut the door, beginning with Connor Lehman's 1.1 scoreless innings, while Austin Morris earned his third win of the season with a clean seventh inning.

Hagan Banks came on to strike out the side in the eighth and closer Carson Ozmer fanned two in a scoreless ninth to seal the win.

Alabama will return to action Thursday for a three game SEC series with Missouri.

First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m. and SEC Network will carry the broadcast.
