NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport Police Department is cautioning the public to be aware of scam callers claiming to be NPD officers.

Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter told local media that scammers are calling people, identifying themselves as NPD officers, and leaving a call-back number that leads to an automated attendant to get individuals' personal information.

Carpenter said this is a scam and NPD officers will never call and ask for personal information or payment.
