The museum includes several exhibits and historical photographs that chronicle two centuries of Northport history, with visitors able to enjoy rotating special collections that provide glimpses into both local and world history.
Northport leaders say the historic property now serves as a gateway for visitors to explore the city's evolution from Native American settlements to its founding in 1816 and through the present day.

"This is a tremendous reason to celebrate our heritage as we welcome thousands of visitors to our city in the heart of our downtown," City Council President Christy Bobo said. "I am excited to see the way our City Administrator, Glenda Webb, Deputy City Administrator Tera Tubbs, Department Heads, and staff members have carried out our vision to create a place to welcome those visiting from other cities to be able to share in the pride our citizens have for our city. This grand opening aligns with Northport's broader tourism and development initiatives to 'Experience Northport,' including the Northport Shore development and River Run Park projects, which collectively enhance the city's appeal as a destination for visitors from across Alabama and beyond."
Northport Mayor John Hinton said the completion of the Northport Visitors Center and Heritage Museum represents the city's commitment to education and cultural enrichment.
"I'm particularly excited about the diverse learning opportunities this facility offers to visitors of all ages," Hinton said. "Through future interactive exhibits and rotating historical collections, guests will gain a deeper appreciation for Northport's unique story and contributions to Alabama's heritage."
District 2 Councilman and Council Pro-Tem Woodrow Washington III said the heritage center embodies the city's inclusive vision for Northport by welcoming people of all abilities to experience our city's rich history and vibrant culture.
"I'm especially proud that this facility serves as a continuation of the beautification of our downtown area, and adds accessibility to our gateway entrance to Northport, ensuring everyone can enjoy and participate in discovering what makes our community special," he said.
