Pedestrian Dies From Injuries After Being Struck Near Busy Tuscaloosa Intersection

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says a pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle on Valentine's Day.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, told local media that Tuscaloosa Police responded at about 10 p.m. to the initial call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Skyland Blvd and Hargrove Road East.

Kennedy said a 31-year-old man had been struck and was transported to the hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
He went on to say that the 18-year-old driver remained on scene, with witnesses reporting that the victim was standing and walking in the road before the incident.

Kennedy explained that the Violent Crimes Unit was called out to assume the investigation after the driver admitted he used a controlled substance several hours before.
"At this time no arrests have been made, and the case is under investigation," Kennedy said. "After all evidence is collected, the case will be evaluated to see if any charges are appropriate."
