Trump carried a deeply conservative Tuscaloosa County with 59.5% of the vote in the presidential election in November but that didn't stop demonstrators from speaking out Saturday with signs taking on issues such as abortion, Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and funding cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), among other issues.

The theme of the protest was "Hands Off," as a way to shed light on what some believe are vast overreaches of presidential authority by the Trump administration.

One organizer said roughly 400 people attended the event Saturday.

The demonstration also comes in the wake of the arrest of University of Alabama graduate student and Iranian national Alireza Doroudi by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement last week and economic uncertainty spurred by the White House's new tariffs on imported goods.
