Police Pursuit Ends In Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting In Northport

A pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting after a suspect opened fire on police.

TUSCALOOSA, AL— A vehicle pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting early Wednesday after a suspect allegedly opened fire on police.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media Wednesday morning that the chase began in Hale County and involved deputies from the Hale County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Moundville Police Department.

The suspect crossed into Tuscaloosa County around 2:30 a.m., where deputies with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit.

Kennedy said police used spike strips to disable the suspect’s vehicle, which came to a stop at Bell Auto Parts, located at 410 Bridge Avenue in Northport.

Kennedy said gunfire was exchanged at the scene and the suspect was killed.

The suspect has not been publicly identified at this time.

He then said the case is being investigated by personnel not affiliated with the sheriff’s office due to a TCSO deputy being involved in the fatal shooting.
