Qualifying is set to begin next week for the City of Tuscaloosa's municipal election on March 4.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Qualifying is set to begin next week for the City of Tuscaloosa's municipal election on March 4.

On the ballot will be elections for mayor, city council, and the Tuscaloosa City Schools Board of Education, with the qualifying period open from Jan. 14-28.

Ahead of qualifying, the city provided a brief list of the following requirements for those seeking to run for office.

General qualifying information:

  • All candidates must pay a qualifying fee priced at $200 for mayor and council, while the fee will be $50 for school board candidates.
  • Qualifying fees can be paid via check, money order or exact cash
  • Candidates must have a current Statement of Economic Interests on file with the Alabama Ethics Commission within five days of submitting the qualifying form

Mayor and council candidate requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Qualified elector of the City
  • Resident of the city/district for at least 90 days before election day
  • Resident of the city/district during the term of office

Board of Education chair/member requirements:

  • Qualified elector of the city
  • No record of conviction for any crime involving moral turpitude
  • Resident of the city/district at least 90 days prior to election day
  • Resident of city/district during term of office
