The Saban Center's campus hopes to create new and innovative educational opportunities through public-private partnerships to serve as a hub for STEM and the arts opportunities for the state of Alabama.

As Patch previously reported, several partnerships have already been established such as Shelton State Community College, Stillman College, The Westervelt Co., NOAA's National Water Center and others.

“The Saban Center’s strength lies in the powerful partnerships uniting to create unparalleled opportunities for our children,” Saban Center Director Audrey Buck said. “From the Saban family to community organizations, educators, industry leaders, and the State of Alabama, this collaboration is shaping a one-of-a-kind campus that will redefine the future of education and innovation. We look forward to welcoming the executive director of Ignite, who will be instrumental in driving this vision forward.”

The ideal leader for Ignite will have an educational background in museum studies, STEM education or a related field, along with extensive experience in museum management.

What's more, candidates will have a demonstrated ability to develop and implement long-term strategic plans, excellent communication skills, and a track record of fostering successful community partnerships.

As Patch previously reported, design work was expected to be complete on the Saban Center by January 2025, followed by a groundbreaking in April.

The Saban Center is on track to open in June 2027.
