Investigators Say Self-Defense Possible Motive After Two Shot In Cottondale

Two men were shot Thursday evening in Cottondale following a confrontation with a group of vehicles reportedly driving recklessly.

COTTONDALE, AL — Investigators believe self-defense could be the motive after two men were shot Thursday evening in Cottondale.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told local media Saturday night that Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputies responded to the initial shooting call at approximately 7 p.m. in the 6000 Block of Cold Springs Road.

Kennedy said once on scene, deputies found a 53-year-old man and a 39-year-old man who had both sustained gunshot wounds. He went on to say they were both transported to an area hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

"The incident occurred during an altercation where the two individuals that were shot were confronting a group of vehicles that had been driving recklessly in the area," he said. "All the individuals involved in this incident were located, the scene was processed for physical evidence, and witnesses were interviewed. After investigation, possible issues of self-defense were raised."
