TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Shelton State Community College women’s basketball team (31-4) is set to make school history when it plays for its first national championship.

This comes after No. 8 seed Shelton State knocked off No. 4 seed Dodge City Community College 60-59 in overtime in the semifinals of the 2025 Credit Union I NJCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship presented by Zurich at the Ford Wyoming Center on Monday night.

The Lady Bucs, led by longtime head coach Madonna Thompson, came up with two defensive stands in the final 10 seconds to advance to the program's first title game.
Sophomore point guard K.K. Hobdy made the difference with a three-pointer with 2:10 left in the overtime before a layup with 1:10 put Dodge City to within one at 60-59.

The Bucs then missed a jump shot with 25 seconds left but Dodge City came up short of snagging the overtime win.
Shelton State had three players in double figures in the win, with Hobdy leading all scorers with 19 points. She also added six assists, four rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.
Freshman Alana Obianozie also added 12 points, while Lameria Thomas had 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Bucs will take on Northwest Florida State College Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the national championship game in Casper, Wyoming.
